HOW TO PLANT
Step 1: PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
Giant Allium Giganteum Flower will grow and bloom best in a location with full sun, although they will tolerate light shade. A location with eastern exposure is best to protect the leaves from hot afternoon sun. Make sure the mature size and height of the plant is suitable for the location. Most varieties will require the support of a structure, whether it is an arbor, fence, trellis, or wall. However, if the goal is to get the climbing rose to cover a wall, it is recommended to use a trellis placed a few inches away from the wall to allow good air circulation.
Dig your planting hole wide and deep enough to accommodate the plant’s roots when spread out. Loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole to allow the roots to easily grow deeper. Center the plant in the hole with the branches pointing slightly toward the climbing structure. The grafting union should be just below the soil level. Fill in the hole and lightly pack the soil. Water well after planting.
Step 2: Allium Giganteum CARE
Training: Allium Giganteum does not require directional training like climbing plants. In the first year, focus on planting the bulbs in a sunny, well-drained location and allow the foliage to grow naturally. Avoid disturbing the plant so it can establish a strong bulb base underground for robust flowering in the following seasons.
Pruning : Pruning is minimal. After the flowers have faded, remove the dried flower heads, but leave the foliage intact until it yellows and dies back naturally. This ensures the bulbs absorb enough energy for next year’s blooms. There is no need to cut or shape the plant during the growing season, and deadheading does not influence repeat blooming since Allium blooms only once per season.
Watering : Allium Giganteum prefers well-drained soil and does not like to sit in overly wet conditions. Water moderately during the growing season, especially in dry weather, but allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can cause the bulbs to rot, so good drainage is essential. Morning watering is ideal to allow excess moisture to evaporate.
Amendments & Fertilizer: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at the time of planting or in early spring as new shoots emerge. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, as they promote foliage over flowers. Enriching the soil with compost or well-rotted organic matter can also improve growth and bloom size.
